Wipe spills as soon as possible, especially around sink areas, joins, handles and appliance edges.
Care and maintenance
Keeping your kitchen, cabinetry and benchtops looking their best
Most surface problems are avoided by cleaning gently, drying edges and protecting from heat, steam and impact.
These instructions cover common kitchen cabinet doors, drawer fronts, hardware and benchtop surfaces. Always follow the specific supplier instructions for your selected materials where they differ from this guide.
Everyday rules for all kitchens
Use a soft damp cloth with warm water and a small amount of mild detergent for routine cleaning.
Dry surfaces after cleaning so moisture is not left sitting on doors, edges, joins or benchtops.
Use chopping boards, trivets and heat pads. Do not cut directly on benchtops or place hot cookware straight onto the surface.
Avoid abrasive pads, scouring powders, bleach, oven cleaner, drain cleaner, acetone, thinners and strong acidic or alkaline cleaners unless the surface supplier confirms they are suitable.
Cabinet doors, drawer fronts and hardware
Cabinet doors and drawer fronts
- Clean with a soft cloth, warm water and mild detergent, then dry with a clean cloth.
- Keep steam from kettles, dishwashers, ovens, coffee machines and air fryers away from door edges and panels.
- Do not hang damp towels over doors or drawer fronts, and do not leave wet cloths sitting against cabinetry.
- Open and close doors and drawers using the handles or intended pull area. Avoid leaning, sitting or standing on open drawers.
Painted, lacquered, acrylic and high-gloss fronts
- Use a clean microfibre cloth and light pressure. Rubbing one area heavily can polish or dull the surface unevenly.
- Remove fingerprints with mild soapy water, then dry. Do not use abrasive cream cleansers or magic erasers.
- Protect edges from knocks, cookware and vacuum heads, as chips and dents are usually impact damage.
Timber veneer and wooden fronts
- Wipe with a lightly damp cloth and dry immediately. Timber and veneer should not be soaked.
- Keep direct heat, strong sunlight and standing water away from timber surfaces where possible.
- Do not apply wax, silicone spray or furniture polish unless Grand Kitchens or the finish supplier confirms it is suitable.
Hinges, runners and drawer hardware
- Keep runners and hinges free of dust, crumbs and cleaning residue.
- Do not oil soft-close hinges or drawer runners unless instructed. Many modern fittings are designed to run without added lubricant.
- Contact Grand Kitchens if doors rub, drawer gaps change, soft-close stops working or a drawer feels overloaded.
Benchtop care by surface type
Laminate surfaces
Clean with warm soapy water and a soft cloth. Dry around joins, sink cut-outs and edges after use.
Avoid direct heat, cutting directly on the surface, abrasive pads, strong solvents and leaving water pooled at joins or edges.
Engineered stone
Use warm soapy water and a clean cloth for daily cleaning. For dried spills, soften with water first, then clean gently and rinse well.
Use trivets for hot cookware, chopping boards for cutting, and avoid prolonged contact with high or low pH chemicals, oils, dyes and metal marks.
Granite
Wipe spills promptly and clean with mild detergent or a stone-safe neutral cleaner. Dry with a soft cloth to reduce streaks.
Avoid acidic cleaners, harsh degreasers, abrasive powders and assuming the stone is stain-proof. Some granite may need resealing over time.
Marble and natural stone
Blot spills immediately, clean with a neutral stone cleaner or mild detergent, rinse and dry. Use coasters under drinks and oils.
Avoid lemon, vinegar, wine, coffee, acidic cleaners and abrasive products. Marble can etch or dull even when sealed.
Wooden benchtops
Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Clean spills quickly, especially around sinks, joins and appliances.
Avoid standing water, direct heat, steam and harsh cleaners. Oiled or sealed timber may need periodic re-oiling or refinishing.
Maintenance schedule
Wipe spills, dry wet areas, use trivets and chopping boards, and keep steam away from doors and panels.
Clean handles, high-touch fronts, sink areas and benchtop joins. Check for water sitting near edges or silicone lines.
Check drawer runners, hinge alignment, loose handles, silicone around wet areas and signs of swelling or movement.
Book service if doors rub, drawer fronts shift, water damage appears, stone chips, joins open or hardware stops closing smoothly.
When to arrange service
Contact Grand Kitchens before a small issue becomes permanent damage. Early service is recommended for water swelling, loose hinges, drawer alignment changes, soft-close faults, stone chips, open joins, damaged silicone or any surface mark that does not clean off with gentle methods.
